Clinical Picture of SARS-Cov-2 Infection in Children in Guanajuato State, Mexico: A Recent Study | Chapter 12 | Issues and Development in Health Research Vol. 7

The goal of this study was to compare the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 with those of another respiratory virus in children.

Coronaviruses are members of the Coronaviridae family of the Nidovirales order. This virus proliferated faster in human airway epithelial cells than in tissue culture cells, indicating that it has a higher infectivity potential.

Research Design: Data from the General Directorate of Epidemiology's National Epidemiological Surveillance System were used to create a cross-sectional study. Place and Time of Study: From March to July 2020, all registrations in the database of confirmed and discarded COVID-19 cases from Guanajuato State, Mexico were examined.

A confirmed case was defined as someone who had fever, cough, and dyspnea, had travelled to a pandemic-affected nation or had contact with a confirmed case, and had a positive rRT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2. The cases that were discarded had a negative rRT-PCR test. Clinical data was compared with Z for two proportions and P-value among individuals under the age of 18, of confirmed and rejected cases in the state of Guanajuato.

The sample includes 446 confirmed cases and 2,134 instances that were discarded. The average age of those confirmed was 9.60 5.46 years, while the average age of those excluded was 8.01 5.39 years (P.05). Males outnumbered females in both groups (P =.91). There are statistically significant differences between confirmed and rejected cases in fever, myalgia, arthralgia, and conjunctivitis (P.05).

Conclusion: The signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and another respiratory virus are identical. COVID-19's characteristics are similar to those of other viral infections, thus the diagnosis cannot be made solely on the basis of signs and symptoms.
