Production of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) Vaccine in Tide Motion Bioreactor Using Vero Cells | Chapter 3 | Research Aspects in Agriculture and Veterinary Science Vol. 4

Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) is one of the most serious restrictions to small ruminant productivity in India. Vaccination with an attenuated PPR strain (Sungri/96) generated in monolayers of vero cells cultured in roller bottles or static flasks is now used to control PPR. This research focuses on the manufacture of PPR vaccines using a tide motion bio reactor as a more advanced process scale-up alternative. Both the roller and bio reactor cultures were produced under the same circumstances and infected with the same number of PPR vaccine virus infections. The bio reactor culture produced more virus than the stationary cultures after infection, according to infectivity titres measured at regular intervals in both cultures. The findings add to our understanding of the viability of using tide motion bio reactor cell culture technology to make PPR vaccine in vero cells, greatly simplifying the current method.

The study's objectives

1. Infect the cells with a known quantity of virus

2. Grow the vero cells in a tide motion bioreactor

3. Comparative analysis of cell growth and virus titer in roller cultures
