Medical education in the twenty-first century necessitates extensive multidisciplinary problem-solving skills, similar to how multiple members of a Malaysian Keluarga (family in Bahasa Melayu) work together to solve problems in daily life, in order to provide cost-effective, high-quality health care. Despite this, medical schools appear to continue to educate medical and health sciences students in silos, with little or no interaction with other healthcare specialties. To address this issue, MAHSA University and Perdana University presented their medical students to a variety of allied health experts with whom they will likely collaborate in the future during patient care. Nursing, biomedical science, pharmacy, psychology, and occupational therapy were among the health-care professions studied at MAHSA University, as well as occupational therapy at Perdana University. A simulated case-based approach was used during a two-hour teaching session to raise medical school students' understanding of the importance of multidisciplinary contact and teamwork. Faculty from each discipline facilitated the session by providing a brief overview of their profession, including their area of practise and academic requirements, and then assisting the students in resolving challenges connected to the case's patient care. At the end of the session, participants were asked to complete a simple 12-item feedback survey questionnaire to rate their experience. Despite the fact that this was a small, exploratory research, feedback survey findings showed that participants were able to recognise the value of other healthcare professions in overall patient care, as well as when to refer to and interact with them. The results of this pilot study can be used to improve future projects of this nature.
