Because blood comes from humans and is a valuable resource with a short shelf life, transfusion medicine raises a number of medical, legal, and ethical concerns. Legal rules provide a foundation for the Indian blood transfusion service (BTS), while ethical criteria pave the way for high-quality care. The purpose of this paper is to provide clinicians with current information on the legal and ethical implications of blood transfusion.
