Determining the Synthesis and Characterization of Some Novel Meso Functionalized Unsymmetrical Metalloporphyrins | Chapter 3 | Challenges and Advances in Chemical Science Vol. 5

The synthesis of meso substituted tetraaryl unsymmetrical metalloporphyrins is described in this article (A3B). The acetate approach and the dimethyl formamide method are two typical ways for metalizing porphyrins. New porphyrins with various functionalizations at the meso-position (A3B type) and their cobalt, nickel, copper, and zinc complexes were synthesised by reacting unsymmetrical porphyrins with metal acetates. The metalloporphyrins that were synthesised were characterised using UV, IR, NMR, and mass spectra. The copper complexes 1c and 3c were investigated further using ESR spectra and magnetic measurements for complexes (1a, 1c, and 3c). Fluorescence spectra were also employed to investigate the zinc complexes of 1d and 3d.
