Study on Phytochemical Analysis of Begonia cordifolia | Chapter 5 | New Visions in Biological Science Vol. 3

The preliminary phytochemical analysis, fluorescence analysis, physicochemical character, and quantitative assessment of Begonia cordifolia leaf extract, which belongs to the Begoniaceae, are all included in this study. Phytochemicals, which are naturally present in medicinal plants, have a large number of defence mechanisms that protect people from a variety of ailments. Different solvents were used to extract B.cordifolia leaf samples, including hexane, ethyl acetate, acetone, methanol, and aqueous. Saponin, protein, phenol, steroid, catachin, triterpenoids, sugar, and reducing sugar were the most prevalent phytochemicals in the sample. The leaf powder revealed distinct colours in different extracts during fluorescence examination. The physico-chemical analysis of the methanol extract of Begonia cordifolia leaves revealed the highest extractive values, while the hexane extract revealed the lowest. The leaves of B. cordifolia had a considerable amount of phenols and flavonoids, according to the quantitative study.
