RNA Interference (RNAi): Application in Crop Improvement | Chapter 3 | Current Topics in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 1

One of the most significant technological breakthroughs in modern biology is RNA interference (RNAi). The RNAi mechanism offers the capacity to identify and evaluate hundreds of genes responsible for crop improvement within any genome. RNAi technology is a powerful tool for inhibiting the expression of a certain gene and determining how it responds to chemical substances. It's a powerful experimental tool in reverse genetics, and the technology has a wide range of potential medical applications. In many crops, RNAi is a unique technique for regulating gene expression for better quality features and nutritional development, and it has been widely used to decrease gene activity in a variety of species. Through the creation of disease, pest, and virus resistant, nutritionally dense, and toxic-free crops, this technology may go a long way toward closing the gap. Finally, technologies like this could be important to global food security and sustainability.
