Determination of Heterosis and Inbreeding Depression for Yield and Its Component Traits in Green Gram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] | Chapter 6 | Emerging Issues in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 4

The present review was carried out to estimate the importance of the heterosis and inbreeding depression for characteristics of economic significance at F1 and F2 generations of twenty-four crosses of green grandam. Study of heterosis in green gram is main for the plant breeder to discover the superior crosses in first generation itself. In addition to this, the importance of heterosis provides action for deciding genetic variety and also serves as guide to the choice of good parents. A total of 24 crosses containing both F1s and F2s of green grandam along with ten persons were evaluated in randomized block design accompanying three replications at the Brahmanand Mahavidyalaya Rath (Hamirpur), Uttar Pradesh during zaid, 2018. Heterosis over intervening parent and better person was significant to well significant for beginning yield/plant along with additional attributing characteristics. The crosses exhibiting extreme heterosis also articulated high inbreeding cavity both in the certain and negative management for days to 50% flowering, pods/plant, pods/cluster, harvest index and source yield/plant. Use of heterosis breeding can be promising for yield bettering in green gram as the heterosis for yield was the result of accruing occurrence of heterosis for arms per plant, pods/cluster, clusters per plant, pods/plant, and biological yield, sources/pod and harvest index. A few cycles of repeating selection following the pedigree pattern would be active and useful in resorting to all types of gene belongings by maintaining big heterozygosity through the mating of picked plants in early segregating generations.
