Rude Actions: An Ethical Analysis | Chapter 3 | Recent Trends in Arts and Social Studies Vol. 1

In this essay I resolve rude actions from the angle of morality. I intend to point out how insolence relates to other moral ideas such as moral anticipation, supererogation, offence, moral vice, and conspiracy, in the hopes of deepening our understanding of the ethical type of rude actions. For the purposes concerning this essay I characterize insolence as acting so as to offend remainder of something. One type of rudeness which is notably blameworthy is insolence for rudeness sake. At the different end of the spectrum is unintentional insolence, which is deserving blame when the person performing the crude action is culpable for not getting information that could have prevented that operation. Under the heading of rude conduct I include deliberate omissions.
