This book, "Studying Africa and Africans Today," was inspired by the Second Meeting of the Africa Regions Sub-Forum of the Belt and Road Research Institute of Xiamen University, which took place there in April 2019. The many perspectives sparked lively and thought-provoking discussions in a welcoming and collegial environment. In the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, the discussions at the Africa sub-Forum yield a number of recommendations on how to improve the scientific, intellectual, and cultural cooperation and exchange between China and Africa. The greatest recommendation calls for greater encouragement of cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, and academic encounters that will pave the path for deeper understanding amongst people. An interdisciplinary research project, the study focuses on Africa and people around the world who are of African heritage. The debates and discussions at Xiamen University involved academics from several countries, including Algeria, Brazil, China, France, Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, and the United States of America.
