COVID-19, which has immobilised the world for over two years, has inflicted devastation on a wide range of social sectors. The COVID-19 epidemic has had a negative impact on the worldwide educational system. As a result of the pandemic's significant effects on education institutions in Sri Lanka, a large number of school-aged children and university undergraduates are facing interruptions in their studies. The worldwide education landscape has been dramatically changed in favour of online learning as a result of the temporary shutdown of educational institutions during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic. The hasty transition from traditional face-to-face classroom technique to online and blended learning modalities in the teaching of English to students has raised a plethora of complaints, ranging from internet connectivity challenges to a lack of learning opportunities owing to financial difficulties The four language talents of reading, writing, listening, and speaking are developed in undergraduates. However, the online education technique has curtailed some of the freedom that a face-to-face language classroom provides. This research aims to look at the impact of the current COVID-19 outbreak on undergraduate English instruction in Sri Lanka, as well as the challenges it raises.
