Coronaviruses (CoV) are RNA respiratory viruses that cause a variety of symptoms, ranging from the common cold to severe infections like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) (SARS-CoV). In December 2019, a new strain of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), dubbed "COVID-19" by the World Health Organization, was found in China (WHO). In the early phases of the outbreak, COVID-19 was primarily found in adults aged 15 and above, with a small proportion of confirmed cases among children.
The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence of COVID-19 and its clinical manifestations in children who visited a paediatric emergency department.
Results will be available from March 1st through June 30th, 2020. A total of 223 patients aged 16 days to 12 years were diagnosed as COVID-19 positive during the study period. Males made up 52% of the population. Fever was observed in 39.9% of the time, cough in 14.3%, and diarrhoea in 3.6 percent of the time.
Conclusion: Our research sheds light on the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 in children.Author(S) Details
