Experimental results (Raman spectroscopy, electron and optical microscopy, Auger spectroscopy) and theoretical discussion with computer modelling of few-layer graphene nanostructures irradiated by SEM electron beams in the range 0.2 - 30 keV at room temperature with intensities varied over a wide range on insulating (SiO2) and metallic (Ni foils) substrates are presented. All employed beam intensities indicated the obvious effect of substrate on Raman spectroscopy data from irradiated specimens. A new putative physical mechanism for subthreshold radiation structural damage in few-layer graphene and related nanostructures is proposed in the paper.
