Study on Critical Failures in Power Systems: Design of IT Based Model and Implementation of SPS in Andra Pradesh State Utility | Chapter 4 | New Approaches in Engineering Research Vol. 11

Power system protection introduces strategies for isolating faults in transmission network components. The electricity grid is vulnerable to wide-spread cascade failures due to its scale and complexity, which can result in the system failing in catastrophic scenarios with simultaneous outages. SPS/remedial action schemes (RAS) are a type of protective plan designed to identify and prevent certain circumstances. This chapter examines the simulation challenges and the solution established, which is unique in the AP System's real-time huge power network. The AP power system was modelled, and a new SPS was constructed and successfully installed in practise.
