An Insight to Automobile Safety Systems | Chapter 5 | New Approaches in Engineering Research Vol. 11

The auto industry's innovation efforts have been aided by technological advancements. As a result of societal growth and a large increase in automobile sales, road accidents are becoming more prevalent and severe. In many circumstances, as the frequency of traffic accidents increases, so does the number of individuals killed in them. Reckless driving, excessive speed, and other associated traits are the leading causes of accidents. As a result, it is more important than ever to avoid road accidents and save human lives. Simultaneously, with the rapid advancement of science and technology, there has been a significant improvement in automotive technology and auto safety technology, which is increasingly being integrated into all elements of automobiles. This chapter aims to present the key automotive safety technologies that are already accessible, as well as some emerging technologies that are developing for vehicle safety to limit damage caused by road accidents. Active safety technology such as antilock brakes, brake assist, front collision warning system, and lane departure warning system are covered, as well as passive safety technologies such as seat belts, airbags, head rest, and crumple zones, which decrease damage after a collision has happened.
