Banditry
is one of the principal forms of instability that has plagued the geopolitical
zone of the North West over the previous decade. Banditry has impacted all
aspects of human life, including food security in the affected states,
including Katsina. The purpose of this article is to describe the effects of
banditry on food security and to emphasise the government's recent attempts to
combat banditry in order to improve food security, among other things. The
study's data was gathered through focus group discussions involving two groups
of five people each from the LGAs afflicted by banditry, namely Jibia, Batsari,
Safana, Faskari, and Dandume. Banditry has had a significant impact on food
security in Katsina State, according to the findings. Farmers are being killed
and kidnapped, farmlands are being seized, cattle are being rustled, grain
silos are being burned and raided, and local commerce routes are being blocked.
Efforts are being made by the federal and state governments to combat banditry
and improve food security, among other things. These efforts are still ongoing,
and the intended results have yet to be reached. As a result, it is advised
that serious actions be taken to combat banditry in order to promote food
security.
