Household Flood Vulnerability: A Case Study of Kelantan | Chapter 2 | Modern Perspectives in Economics, Business and Management Vol. 6

The purpose of this study is to develop a household flood vulnerability index (FVI) and measure flood vulnerability among Kelantanese families. Balica and Wright [1]'s FVI approach, which incorporates primary and secondary data, is used to create the FVI in this study. The original data came from household questionnaires, and the secondary data came from reputable organisations. The FVI was then utilised in Kota Bharu and Kuala Krai to estimate home flood susceptibility. According to reports, Kota Bharu is economically vulnerable to floods, as evidenced by existing income disparities between households. However, because to low-lying areas and heavy rainfall patterns, Kuala Krai is physically prone to floods. As a trustworthy set of vulnerability indicators, the FVI provides for a more comprehensive evaluation of an area from multiple perspectives, which benefits decision and policy makers, the general public, and vulnerable populations strategically.
