Hamartoma of Breast: An Under-Recognised Entity | Chapter 18 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 4

Introduction: Breast hamartoma is a rare, benign, slow-growing disease that affects female patients of various ages after puberty. In women, this pathological entity is found in 1.2 percent of benign lesions and 4-8 percent of benign breast cancers. A hamartoma is a benign tumour made up of an aberrant mixture of normal tissues and cells from the surrounding area. Mammary hamartoma is a rare kind of breast tumour made up of the same components as healthy mammary tissue. In guys, this illness is quite uncommon.

Conclusion: Breast hamartomas are uncommon benign tumours that can grow quickly and cause breast deformity, necessitating careful monitoring or early intervention. The role of ultrasound in diagnosing is considerable, whereas the role of fine-needle aspiration is debatable [1].
