Determining the Structure of the Community of Dominant Fish Species Associated to Soft Bottoms in the Lagoon of La Paz, B.C.S. México | Chapter 10 | Challenging Issues on Environment and Earth Science Vol. 8

 The study of fish communities in coastal lagoons allows researchers to gain a better knowledge of the role of these species in these systems, as well as the effects of human activity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the community structure in the lagoon of La Paz, particularly the dominance of fish species associated with soft bottoms, with specific aims in mind. Determine the physicochemical parameters of the localities and their relationship to the dominant species, determine the structure of soft bottom species using the ecological indexes of specific richness of Margalef (IRE), Shannon-Weaver (H '), Pielou's evenness (J'), and Simpson (Dsi), determine the structure of soft bottom species using the ecological indexes of specific richness of Margalef (IRE), Shannon-Weaver (H '), Pielou's Determine the resident and transitory species based on their zoogeographic affinity and the ecological role of the dominating species according to the BVI. From November 2016 to September 2017, physicochemical parameters were measured in six biweekly samplings in seven locations. Only between months did the Shannon-Weaver index and Pielou's evenness indicate significant changes. Simpson's index indicates a high level of risk. diversity. The BVI identified 15 species from the Haemulidae, Sciaenidae, and Gerreidae families as the most biologically significant. According to a zoogeographic affinity research, the Province of Cortez is preferred by 58 percent of the species. In soft-bottom systems like the lagoon of La Paz, dominant species like those found in this study play an important role.
