Cytogenetic Background of Diagnostic / Prognostic DNA-Karyometry | Chapter 13 | Advanced Research in Biological Science Vol. 3

Subjective microscopical morphologic disease and grading the virulence of tumors reveals some deficiencies in very early stages of their growth (low positive predicting value) and in ranking their malignancy (low reproducibility and restricted prognostic validity). Detecting the DNA-cytometric equivalent of clonal chromosomal aneuploidy (= DNA-stemline-aneuploidy) helps to recognize malignant transformation former than microscopic form by cytology or histology unique. Quantifying the number and deviation of cytogenetically weird cell clones (equivalent = number and c-values of strange DNAstemlines) allow a more genuine and more reproducible grading of malignancy in many types of malignancy (e.g. of the prostate). We in this place describe the equivalence of particular terms, secondhand in cancer cytogenetics and DNA-cytometry resp. -karyometry. Therapeutic consequences of the cytometric discovery of single-container- or stemline-DNA-aneuploidy are proposed.
