Determination of Subjective Well-being among Empty-nest Elderly and Its Related Factors in Guangdong Province, China| Chapter 9 | Research Highlights in Disease and Health Research Vol. 7

 With the meeting of an aging humankind and the acceleration of worldwide integration, industrialization, and urbanization, skilled are more and more empty home elderly. It is expected that by 2030, the retired population in China will be almost 300 million, and the rate of empty nest retired households will reach 90%. The living conditions of empty home elderly society are not only related to their material and mental well-being, but also to the stability of the country and public development. The aim concerning this study is to survey the status of satisfaction and social support of empty nesters in Guangdong Province and resolve the relationship middle from two points the above two variables. Totally 1148 empty nesters (776 men, 734 females) from 5 capitals in Guangdong province are picked by stratified random sampling and attended with Memorial University of Newfoundland Scale of Happiness (MUNSH), Social Support RatingScale (SSRS), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and a self-rewrote questionnaire on the common information. The survey results display the following 3 points. First, The total score of MUNSH is (10.20±6.37). Second, the total score and the scores of the 3 dimensions of objective support, subject support, the use of support in SSRS are (30.79±5.51), (9.24±2.37), (19.38±4.95) and (9.22±2.15) individually. Third, multiple changeable linear reversion show that the following 9 factors (β =.217, .316, .152, .587, .513, .146, .166, .114, .198 individually, all P< .05) are positively guide the total score of MUNSH, like living mode, marital rank, educational level, fitness status, pensions level, repetitiveness of children visiting, either like to play old-type card game or mahjong, whether maintain pets, and social support total score. Some parts are negatively equated with MUNSH scores (β=-.413, -.521, -.130, -.077, all P< .05), such as self-ranked loneliness scope, whether take the trouble medical expenses, housing questions, whether need to receive the day-care orlegal aid duties. It is therefore submitted that the physical fitness, personal economic condition, recreation interest, children’ care, and public support may be part of factors of emotional well-being with empty-nest aging.
