Dynamic Stability Enhancement of SMIB Power System with PSS-SVC with LQR Optimal Control | Chapter 6 | Technological Innovation in Engineering Research Vol. 3

This chapter presents a dynamic stability study of a Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) test system with optimal control for a test system under modest disturbance using Power System Stabilizer (PSS), Static Var Compensator (SVC), and Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). Heffron-model Phillip's is used to create the test system. To improve the dynamic stability of a unique system, PSS and SVC damping controllers are presented. Eigenvalue analysis and temporal response data are used to evaluate the system's performance under nominal load conditions. LQR with SVC delivers superior damping than SVC, PSS, and without control when compared to PSS and SVC. In the MATLAB-Simulink environment, the SMIB power system was simulated.
