Obesity has been related to a variety of ailments as well as a shorter life expectancy. This critical public health concern is becoming more prevalent around the world.
The goal of this study is to show how obesity has evolved from the Paleolithic era to the current day, and to promote it as a sickness rather than a survival advantage as it was previously thought.
Methods: Based on a narrative assessment of the literature, this is an overview of the evolution of obesity throughout history, including from a sociocultural perspective and tying it to metabolic problems.
Obesity has been around since the Paleolithic period, and it was once thought to be advantageous since it was linked to high social standing and fertility. Physicians began to correlate it with disorders around the same period, but it wasn't until the 1920s that it received significant attention as a sickness.
Conclusions: Obesity has been present throughout history, according to published literature on the subject. Obesity appears to be recognised as an illness, both politically and medically, in recent years.Author(S) Details
