The goal of the study was to find out how much iodine was in NAFDAC-approved table salts in Nigeria. In Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria, three table salt brands were purchased from retailers: Dangote fine edible salt, Royal edible salt, and Mr. Chef edible salt. The iodine concentration of salt is one of the markers used to track the long-term elimination of iodine shortage as a public health issue. The titrimetric method was used to determine the iodine level of each of the three brands of salt samples. For salt iodization, potassium iodide (KI) was employed. The Dangote fine edible salt contained 39.6 parts per million of iodine, while the Royal edible salt included 41.8 parts per million, and the Mr. Chef edible salt contained 42.9 parts per million. The results show that each of the three samples met the NAFDAC-approved iodine content standards. However, the results obtained for each table salt were often lower than the value found at the production level (50 ppm). The results were within the permissible range of 50 ppm to 30 ppm for human consumption.
