A Study on Awareness and Use of Internet Services among First MBBS Students in India | Chapter 11 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 6

Background: In the field of medicine, the Internet is utilised for a number of reasons, including teaching, diagnosis, medical examination, and research. It has grown into the world's largest library, with scientific resources available with a single mouse click and a wealth of information. The goal of this study was to look into the patterns of internet access and usage among first-year medical students. Materials and Procedures: At an Indian tertiary health care centre, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 142 first-year MBBS students. Data was gathered via a questionnaire.

The current study discovered that all pupils used the internet and considered it to be a valuable tool. Most people believed that using the internet saved them time and that they preferred mobile phones to other devices for various browsing activities such as downloading text materials, movies, and photos. Conclusion: Despite the fact that the majority of students were aware of how to utilise the internet, it was not effectively employed as an instructional tool. Interventional interventions that can increase computer usage skills and access among students should be implemented to prevent the occurrence of internet addiction behaviour.
