A Review on Unani and Modern Aspects of Psoriasis (Da’u-us-Sadaf) Treatment | Chapter 13 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 6

Psoriasis (Da'u-us-Sadaf) is a debilitating, inflammatory, and persistent autoimmune skin disease that affects people all over the world. Europeans have the highest rate, whereas East Asians have the lowest rate. Adult psoriasis prevalence in India ranges from 0.44 percent to 2.8 percent. Psoriasis is a combination of the Greek words psora, which means "itch," and iasis, which means "activity, condition." The Arabic phrases "daun" and "Sadaf," which mean "illness" and "oyster shell," respectively, are combined to make Da'u-us-Sadaf. Psoriasis, or Da'u-us-Sadaf, has not been referenced in any classic literature since ancient times. Because of the dryness of the skin and scale formation, which clinically resembles psoriasis (Da'u-us-Sadaf), it was classified as Taqashur-e-Jild and Qashaf-e-Jild by famous Unani physicians Razi, Majoosi, Ahmad Bin Mohd Tabari, Ibn-e-Zohr, Akbar Arzani, and Azam Khan. Tabiyat expels Khilt-e-Ghaleez from internal organs to the skin, causing dryness and itching, but the skin is unable to eliminate the Khilt-e-Ghaleez, resulting in the accumulation of sauda in the skin and the production of Taqashur-e-Jild, according to Ali Ibn-e-Abbas Al- Majoosi. Unani scholars have emphasised the Usool-e-Ilaj (treatment principle), which includes black bile evacuations (Istifragh or Tanqiyahe Sauda), blood purifier use (Tasfeeh-e-Dam), Munzijate Sauda (Melancholic concoctives), Mushilate Sauda (Melancholic purgatives), Tabreed Badan (genesis of ratoobat or We attempted to explore both Unani and modern features of psoriasis (Da'u-us-Sadaf) in this review.

The goal of this study is to look at how psoriasis is treated in both modern medicine and unani therapy. To gain knowledge on psoriasis facts.
