Crossbite Treatment in Orthodontics – An Overview | Chapter 2 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 15

Anterior crossbite is a malocclusion caused by the maxillary anterior or posterior teeth being locked behind the mandibular teeth in an improper labiolingual relationship. It affects 4–23% of early children and can cause asymmetry in the mandibular and facial regions. As a result, early intervention is frequently required to establish the appropriate conditions for optimal occlusal and facial development. Early orthodontic therapy would benefit skeletal and dental development, as well as the correction of harmful behaviours such digit sucking. Incorrect function and malocclusion, particularly transverse discrepancies, can cause temporomandibular joint difficulties or facial asymmetry in the early phases. To correct crossbite, there are a variety of treatment options available, one of which is mentioned here.
