Determination of Performance and Emission Test on a CI Engine by using Algae Oil as an Alternative Fuel | Chapter 7 | New Visions in Science and Technology Vol. 9

The most serious threat to the environment and public health is air pollution, which is caused by hydrocarbon, nitrogen oxide, carbon oxide, and sulphur oxide emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels. In recent years, the rapid increase in the consumption of fossil fuels by various factories has sparked a search for alternative fuels. Because they can be used to replace conventional fuels, these fuels are also known as non-conventional fuels. Algae oil is one of the most promising microbe-derived biofuels sources. It is frequently used since it is a long-lasting, environmentally safe oil that has numerous advantages. As a result, algal oil has been used to evaluate a diesel engine's performance and emissions. B5, B10 testing necessitated the creation of the mixes. Raw algal oil (5 percent for B5 and 10% for B10), as well as Diesel, have been blended in with 5% of methanol (90 percent for B5 and 85 percent for B10). The Kirlosker Engine with 6.97 HP (5.2KW)@1500rpm is used for performance analysis. The engine's exhaust was connected to AVL emission analyzers and smoke detectors in parallel. All gas values were compared and displayed. Methanol was utilised as a catalyst in both the B5 and B10 mixes. A better catalyst could improve the performance of the B10 mix in the future, allowing us to use more organic algal oil instead of non-renewable diesel.
