Introduction: It has been reported that the use of computers by medical students is increasing. Many diagnostic examinations in the hospital are conducted on computers, and study materials are becoming more digital. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and clinical evaluation of computer vision syndrome among medical students, as well as raise awareness about the illness.
Materials and Procedures: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a medical college in Pune. Students on the medical college's campus were given the questionnaire, and those who were found to be symptomatic were tested further in the Out Patient Department of Ophthalmology, with the data analysed using SPSS software version 17.0. The data was analysed using proportions, percentages, and other statistical methods. We employed statistical significance tests.
Computer vision syndrome was shown to be present in 54.44 percent of the participants. Those who use computers for 6-8 hours, as well as students who have used computers for more than 6-8 years, have a greater percentage (39.12 percent) of computer vision syndrome (CVS). Both ocular and non-ocular symptoms were statistically significant.
Conclusion: A total of 54.44 percent of medical students had computer vision syndrome. Factors that lessen symptoms were also looked into, and it was shown that being aware of CVS reduced symptoms significantly.Author(S) Details
