A Rare Case Report on Frontal Encephalocele | Chapter 11 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 4

 Frontal encephalocele is a less common type of encephalocele than occipital encephalocele. Protrusion of brain material via a defect in the frontal bone is known as frontal encephalocele. In this example, the meninges and a portion of the frontal lobe protruded through the defect. Its management is standard, but the technique to repair is unique. To lower the extent of the swelling and manage the hydrocephalus, we initially use a ventriculoperitoneal shunt.

Report on a Case: Encephalocele is a congenital condition in which a portion of the brain protrudes through the cranial defect. A case of frontal encephalocele in a three-month-old male child has been reported. The swelling was not visible because it was covered by the skin.

Conclusion: Frontal encephalocele is a relatively uncommon condition. The authors present a case of congenital frontal encephalocele, a rare neural tube abnormality.
