Vulval/Labial Leiomyoma: A Rare Case Report | Chapter 15 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 2

Vulval/labial leiomyomas are rare tumours that are thought to develop from smooth muscle cells in the labia majora's round ligament remnants, erectile tissue, and blood vessel walls. We discuss the case of a 33-year-old parous lady who had been experiencing painless swelling in the vulval region and discomfort for the past three years. The lesion in the vulval area was surgically removed from the patient. The histological findings pointed to a benign leiomyoma. In the literature, there are only about a hundred and twenty cases of vulval smooth muscle tumours [1, 2]. Because many other vulval lesions have similar appearances, differentiating leiomyoma from other lesions can be challenging. Vulvar leiomyomas can only be treated via surgical excision [3]. As a result, these lesions should be surgically removed and sent for histological testing for confirmation of diagnosis. This case report aids in the consideration of various vulval mass differential diagnosis.
