Studying the Semen Characteristics of Nellore Jodipi Sheep | Chapter 7 | Current Research in Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences Vol. 2

Palamaner conducted a report on the semen properties of Nellore Jodipi rams maintained at the Livestock Research Station. Mean (±SE) ejaculate amount, sperm concentration and mass activity (0-5 scale) were 0.62±0.03 ml, 4037.66±42.75ml and 3.98±0.08 per ml respectively in Nellore Jodipi rams semen. The mean percentage (±SE) of individual motility, live spermatozoa, head, mid-piece and tail defects and intact acrosomes in fresh semen were respectively 70.75±0.53, 63.22±0.48, 1.02±0.11,0.10±0.04, 5.08±0.22 and 95.47±0.20. The current study revealed that the semen characteristics of Nellore Jodipi ram were well within the usual limit and could retain its fertilising capacity at 5oC for up to 48 h of storage time in the TCFY dilutor.
