With the rapid growth of the transport, aerospace, and defence industries, due to their low densities, high specific strengths, excellent casting ability, and outstanding vibrational energy absorption, magnesium alloys have received increasing attention. The finite element method for analysing the effect of annealing temperatures on residual stress in the diffusion zone of AZ31 Mg and 6061 Al alloys was used in this analysis, based on the principle of thermal conduction and thermal-elastoplasticity. Experiments on the microstructure and mechanical actions of the diffusion zone have also been studied to check the efficiency of simulations. Annealing simulations For further investigation of the diffusion layers, residual stress analysis using X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis using an electron probe microanalyzer, and microstructure investigation via scanning electron microscopy were performed. It can be seen, according to the results of simulations and experiments, that with increasing annealing temperatures, the diffusion layers expand and the results of the simulations are in good agreement with those of the experiments. For samples recovered at 250 ° C, the microstructure and elemental distribution were the most uniform and the residual stress was the least. Thus, the most suitable annealing temperature was found to be 250°C.
