A Study on Efficacy of Trichoderma spp. Against Fusarial Wilts of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)| Chapter 10 | Cutting-edge Research in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 4

The present research aims to determine the effectiveness of Trichoderma spp. Against the Chickpea Fusarial Wilts (Cicer arietinum L.). Agriculture is India's largest private sector, and has been and will continue to be the Indian economy's lifeline. Like other crops, chickpea is also affected by numerous diseases and insect pests, the most serious of which are fusarial wilt and chickpea pod borer; there are many strategies such as breeding and growing resistant varieties, using chemical fungicides and insecticides to control chickpea fusarial wilt. However, the growing use in plant defence of chemical fungicides and insecticides results in many severe hazardous problems. Continuous use of these chemical compounds interferes with our ecological balance, leading to an increase in human diseases, insect resistance problems, parasites and weed populations. By utilising biological control agents under an integrated pest/disease management scheme, this issue can be reduced. Therefore, it was found in the present investigation that the use of bio-pesticide formulations in the laboratory as well as in field conditions showed significant success in the control of wilted diseases.
