Discussing Agricultural Transformation in Jharkhand | Chapter 5 | Cutting-edge Research in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 4

The "Jharkhand Agricultural Transformation" study found that the cropping pattern has changed from lower-value crops to high-value crops in the state. The area under the paddy crop continues to decline, while the area under the wheat crop in the state is growing. Furthermore, the study shows that the area of small millet crops in the state is continuously decreasing and reaching a negligible amount. As indicated by an increase in area, output and productivity in the state, the performance of pulse and oil seed crops improves year after year. The region of the vegetable crop contributed significantly to cropping trends, showing almost 11 percent during 2012-13, which was close to 7 percent in 2000. The fruit acreage in the state has also risen from 2000 to 2018. During this period, the rate of growth was close to three times in the state. Major increases in the use of chemical fertilisers (NPK) in the state were also found to be nearly three times higher than the base year 2001. Milk output also increased from approximately 9.40 lakh tonnes to approximately 20.83 lakh tonnes between 2001-02 and 2017-18. Similarly, fish production increased sharply from 2001-02 to 2017-18, which is almost more than thirteen times the baseline era (2001-02). In general, it is clear that the technological transition in agriculture has taken place in the state.
