Detailed Study on Deformity Effect of Diflubenzuron on Larvae of Black Hairy Catterpillar, Pericallia ricini | Chapter 2 | Cutting-edge Research in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 5

The effect of diflubenzuron on Pericallia ricini was evaluated in laboratory conditions via oral and touch therapy. The findings showed deformity to varying degrees in larvae and pupae and was associated with concentration, but due to high lethal action, the deformity rate was decreased at higher concentrations. Because of the erratic deposition of chitin, larvae were unable to mould and shrinkage was also seen. Abnormal larvae with decreased body size, unable to mould properly, with a bloated larval body, due to incomplete metamorphosis, resulting in larval-pupal intermediates.
