In both general philosophy and social
criticism, Axel Hägerström and Max Weber published a variety of books and
essays, the former concentrating on ontology and epistemology, while the latter
included a painstaking cultural critique aimed at demystifying existing moral
conceptions, the heralded religion and authoritative law. In a very original
way, Weber built a meta-science, choosing the best out of German theory in
particular. He was no Kantian, nor was he a positivist. His description of the
inner aspect of conduct, Sinn, subjective sense, is very important today.
