Controlled Chemical Synthesis Methods of Ag Nanoparticles | Chapter 9 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 6

Nanotechnology is the study of tiny-scale manipulation of matter or particles. Atoms and molecules behave differently in the nano-size range. Nanotechnology helps to synthesise new nanosized materials in the processing, design, and application of materials on the atomic and molecular scale. But the growth mechanism depends on the size, physical , and chemical properties of synthesised nanoparticles ( NPs). For the production of doped / undoped nanocrystalline materials, research into the process of growth of nanoparticles is a must. Silver nanoparticles ( Ag-NPs) have a broad variety of applications as noble metal nanomaterials, including biosensors, antistatic materials, antibacterial materials, cryogenic superconducting materials, and so on. The Ag-NPs with the necessary parameters such as mean diameter, porosity and surface area, etc., are obtained by controlled preparation steps of nanoparticles. To obtain positive results from Researchers have been manipulating all possible physical , chemical as well as biological routes with nanomaterials. We will try to discuss all the chemical methods of synthesis of Ag-NPs used in modern times in the current chapter. Why did we prefer chemical routes even though we were able to synthesise nanomaterials without much effort by physical methods? The response lies in the technique itself, as the physical methods we adopt today are costly, require heavy instrumentation, and before the formulation of final products, we can not modify the reaction pathway. Scientists have developed chemical methods to synthesise Ag-NPs to address all these big disadvantages.
