Plasma Facing Materials – Part A: A Short Review and Introductory | Chapter 12 | Recent Developments in Engineering Research Vol. 6

Fusion has been studied extensively and promises to be an infinite source of energy. However, due to poor mechanical, structural and thermal design coupled with poor material selection for different reactor segments that grow into sections, it has not been able to achieve adequate success. There is, sadly, no attempt to tackle this void. In this report, which is part of a series of proposals, an attempt has been made to list various methods and techniques to date for making plasma facing materials in order to choose an acceptable material for the first wall. The resulting selection agrees well with the physical metallurgy and crystallography established.
