An Overview of Phytochemical Constituents of Senna didymobotrya Fresen Irwin Roots Used as a Traditional Medicinal Plant in Kenya | Chapter 7 | Recent Progress in Microbiology and Biotechnology Vol. 2

 

Because of their reliable pharmacological behaviour and affordability to ordinary citizens, medicinal plants and herbal preparations are gaining renowned interest in scientific communities today , making them efficient in controlling different diseases. In Kenya and the world as a whole, medicinal plants play an important role in the treatment of different diseases. One of the plants commonly used in Kenya to treat diseases such as diarrhoea, malaria, ringworm, jaundice, and intestinal worms is Senna didymobotya. The main objective of this analysis was to examine the phytochemical composition of Senna didymobotya's plant roots. Chemical tests were conducted using normal protocols for the screening and detection of bioactive chemical constituents in medicinal plants in crude root extracts. The study showed that the roots of the plant contained steroids, terpenoids, anthraquinones, tannins, saponins, glycosides , flavonoids, alkaloids and phenols. The definition of In regards to the role of Senna didymobotya plant roots in traditional medicine, the phytochemical components were discussed.
