Additive Manufacturing of Bulk Metallic Glasses and Their Composites – Recent Trends and Approaches | Chapter 8 | Recent Developments in Engineering Research Vol. 6

They have formed as composite material to resolve the problem of brittleness after attracting much attention from the scientific community as advanced material with superior hardness , strength, and elastic strain limit characteristics. Alloying components are applied to the liquid melt and appear to form crystals in the glass matrix that serve the above function under controlled conditions. Various primitive manufacturing techniques have proven to be their optimal production process, such as rapid solidification in suction casting, twin roll casting, film casting, spin casting and centrifugal casting. Additive manufacturing-a new technique is asserted to prosses inherent rapid cooling rate that can be used efficiently to build glass structure. This brief analysis describes some recent attempts in depth. The method has been found to be beneficial and efficient.
