Gray Zone Patients in Our Clinical Data: Prospective and Retrospective Analyses | Chapter 17 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 6

The goal of this study was to see if there was a link between prostate volume and PSA levels in the blood of individuals in the "grey zone," who were divided into age groups.

Methods and Materials: Both prospective and retrospective research A total of 1420 individuals with LUTS were studied, divided into four age groups. Between January 2010 and October 2014, patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were treated in the urology clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo. Prostate size was determined by trans abdominal ultrasound using 3.5MHz ultrasonography, according to the ellipsoid formula, V = D1xD2xD3/2.5, and prostate volume, V=T x AP x CC x Pi /6, where T is transverse diameter, AP is antero-posterior diameter, and CC is cranial caudal diameter. The study excluded patients who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The t-test and ANOVA were utilised in the statistical analysis, with 95 and 99 percent confidence intervals.

The mean values for the "grey zone" patients were 44.6 cm3 and 5.9 ng/mL.

Conclusions: In patients with BPH, PSA is substantially linked with prostate volume and age. The findings show that prostate volume and serum PSA concentration are highly related to age and patients in the "grey zone."
