The goal of this one-year prospective observational study was to see if there was a link between absolute eosinophil count (AEC) and perioperative respiratory problems in 200 paediatric kids aged 3-5 years who had elective general anaesthesia. Prior to surgery, the AEC was measured. The researchers looked at three groups of patients with an AEC of 0-800. All of the patients were given the same anaesthetic by a single paediatric anaesthesiologist. Respiratory problems such cough, stridor, bronchospasm, laryngospasm, and pulmonary oedema were investigated in each group. Regardless of the patients' age, gender, or weight, the rate and severity of problems increased proportionally with the increase in AEC. Complications were managed with the necessary drugs and procedures. There were also non-respiratory effects of high AEC studied. An attempt was also made to link the chest x-ray findings to AEC.
