Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2) is a chronic condition defined by absolute or relative failure of an insulin-producing hormone generated by the pancreas, as well as changes in protein, lipid, and carbohydrate metabolism [1-3].
The goal of this study is to see if a high birth weight in children aged 7 to 11 years is a predictor of the link between obesity and diabetes mellitus.
Methods: Children born between January 1992 and December 1995 were studied in a descriptive study with a design case - control.
Results: In the study group, we discovered that 2.85 percent of overweight people are pre-diabetic and 1.44 percent are diabetic, 1.42 percent of obese people are pre-diabetic and 3.56 percent are diabetic, with a Fisher's P = 0.0002 association between nutritional status (overweight, obesity) and diabetes; in the control group, we discovered that 3.00 percent of overweight people are diabetic and diabetic pre 0.00 percent, and 2.00 percent of obese people are diabetic Fisher's P = 0, 0343, existing link between nutritional status and pre-diabetes and diabetes in this group was also found, therefore there is no difference between the two groups, although it should be noted that his association was greater in the study group. In our investigation, there was no link between high birth weight and diabetes.
Conclusion: High birth weight (macrosomia) is not an independent predictor of the link between excess malnutrition and diabetes in both groups.
