Fibro-osseous lesions are a heterogeneous group of benign lesions of unknown etiology affecting the jaws and other craniofacial bones characterized by fibrous tissue substitution of the usual bone containing a newly developed, mineralized substance. There is no specific definition of the origin of cemento-ossifying fibroids and they have been divided into different sub-groups. Under "benign mesenchymal odontogenic tumours," these most ill-defined and confounding lesions are classified. It is considered the most unusual, benign, slow-growing, non-odontogenic intrabacterial neoplasm.
