Recent Advancements in Numerical Investigations on Enhancement of Bi-evaporator Compression Refrigeration System Using Ejector as Expansion Device | Chapter 15 | Advanced Aspects of Engineering Research Vol. 2

Many cold storage applications today need different kinds of cooling loads to be connected to the same cooling system. This is achieved by feeding refrigerants into multi-evaporators. To satisfy this requirement, a bi-evaporator single compression system is typically used with individual expansion valves or with multiple expansion valve arrangements. With a growing appetite for energy conservation, the performance of these types of refrigeration systems needs to be further improved. One such approach is to increase the performance of the system by using a two-phase ejector as an expansion mechanism instead of an expansion valve. The efficiency of this ejector-bi-evaporator compression cooling system will be evaluated by energy analysis using MATLAB numerical simulation and compared to the traditional expansion valve-bi-evaporator compression cooling system. R134a will be used as a working fluid to research the influence of the temperature of the evaporator and the temperature of the condenser on the cooling power and the output coefficient. In general, bi-evaporator ejector expansion VCRS efficiency shows marked improvement compared to traditional bi-evaporator VCRS and provides a better cooling solution for efficient cold storage systems that require maintaining cooling loads at various evaporator temperatures.
