Study on Asymmetric Hydrogenation of N-heterocycles with Sodium Cyanoborohydride and S - (-) – Binol | Chapter 13 | Current Perspectives on Chemical Sciences Vol. 4

Hydrogenation is the easiest but most efficient way to use cheap, safe hydrogen gas without forming any waste to manufacture a wide variety of essential compounds in large quantities. Indole-3-aldehyde, indazole-3-aldehyde and aza indole-3-aldehyde asymmetric hydrogenation with sodium cyanoborohydride and s-binol under glac. Acetic acid gave enantiomeric excess of 3-substituted 2,3-dihydro alcohols at good yields over a period of 1-2 h. This is the first research on the hydrogenation of aromatic compounds such as indoles, indazoles and aza indoles with Sodium cyanoborohyddride, a mild decreasing catalyst.
