The dementia journey is a long one, sometimes full of uncertainties, sorrow, grief, desperation, and often, for most people with dementia and their caregivers, joy and happiness. Currently, there is no cure for this horrible disease. Dementia robs people of their identity and integrity, leaving them, at the end of this long and arduous journey, like a hollow shell. As a healthcare professional, there is a great deal that we can do to boost the quality of life of our dementia sufferers and their caregivers. In this journey, caregivers are our important allies and it should be a priority to take care of the caregivers as healthcare professionals.
