Using the traditional quenching procedure, a series of glasses with the general formula (40-x)Li2O:30B2O3:30Bi2O3:xV2O5, with x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mol percent, were created. Differential Thermal Analysis was used to estimate the glass transition temperature Tg for these samples. Beyond 0.5 mol percent, the glass transition temperature rises. The glasses under investigation are made up of BO3 and BO4 structural elements that are randomly joined. Glass density and molar volume were discovered to be dependent on V2O5 concentration. With the addition of V2O5, the density, molar volume, and glass transition temperature initially increase. This shows that when V2O5 is introduced to the glass at a concentration of up to 0.5 mol%, it may act as a modifier. As V2O5 travels from former to former above 0.5 mol percent, density declines and molar volume increases. This indicates V2O5's role as a glass network former in concentrations greater than 0.5 mol%. With more V2O5, the optical band gap energy lowers and the cutoff wavelength increases. The effect of transition metals on the optical characteristics of lithium bismuth borate glasses is being investigated by the authors.
