The Proposal for a Four-Phase Stress Model | Chapter 14 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 17

Stress has been established as a major risk factor for mental illness, and its prevalence is increasing globally, affecting not just the workforce but also labour organisations at a significant cost. Stress diagnosis cannot be made on the basis of chance, since it necessitates a thorough grasp of what makes a stress reaction and the symptomatological condition that distinguishes it. It is vital to learn how to recognise stress symptoms and their severity in order to prevent and treat stress-related consequences. The current research proposes a four-stage model of the stress response, which adds a phase to Selye's three-phase model. The model describes a stage that exists between the resistance and fatigue stages of the Selye model and has characteristics that are separate from the others. The Near-exhaustion phase has been given to this newly discovered stage. A total of 37,454 adult individuals' stress symptoms were categorised into four phases, which could be utilised to aid in the diagnosis of stress. It is proposed that Selye's three-phase stress model be replaced by a four-phase stress mechanism.
